Who Says $3 Won’t Get You Much These Days Especially at a Petite Size?

Who Says $3 Won’t Get You Much These Days Especially at a Petite Size?

I love shopping in street style fashion stores.

The deals make it worth it for me to alter it for my petite size, but this is what happens when I ask my husband to take a few photos for me. ⬆️I told him any time he annoys me, I’m sending him that last photo – serves him right!

So there’s a cool street style store I like to go to in Flint called Forman Mills. They’re a lot like Dr Jay’s or online stores like Berrylook. Forman Mills carries kids, teens, mens and ladies wear and my 15 year old skinny-twig son, Trenton, needed some dress pants for Homecoming so we made a tip up there. It’s a store that I can get lost in and I know he hates when I take a long time in a store, so on the way there I told myself, “Don’t get distracted.” I wanted this time to be Trenton’s time.

Oops.

Sidetracked by the Clearance Racks

We didn’t find the pants, but as we were leaving I spied the $1, $3 and $5 rack. Those get me every time, no matter what store I’m at. I knew if I didn’t go look, those racks would be calling my name for the next week and then I’d have to drive myself back up there just to curb my curiosity — and it’s a 40 minute drive, so I knew I didn’t want to go back on a separate trip.

Sorry Trenton!

Before he could get to the door to leave, I was saying, “Just 2 minutes!” over my shoulder and shuffling hurriedly down the aisle. I found a dress on the $1 rack, and four more on the $3 rack, along with a black satin cold shoulder shirt for $2. I didn’t have time to try them all on and I was on quick mode for Trenton’s sake, so I just bought them all.

Sadly only 3 out of the 5 items fit which means I have to take a trip back up there to return them. I would’ve thrown the items that didn’t fit on Poshmark (if you’re new to poshmark, enter “vickgould” when you sign up and get a $5 credit) but one of my dresses still had the security tag on it and I want it, so I have to go do that anyway.

Simple Alterations for Petite Size

This weekend I spent some time altering two of the $3 dresses. One I purchased at a size 6 and I’m a 2, so I took it in – super easy. And the other needed to be hemmed because I’m only 5 foot 2 inches – petite size. Even with the silver heels I tried them on with, they were too long. #shortpeopleproblems

Here’s how they turned out:

What do you think? $3 really can get you some great stuff these days!

  1. That’s awesome! I just have goodwill and Salvation Army in my town for thrifting, and while occasionally I find good stuff there (I get a lot of my kids’ clothes there), I very rarely find things that would work well for me. I need to do some research and see if there are good quality thrifts in a reasonable distance!

    1. I love a great thrift store too. Foreman Mills isn’t a thrift store – they have all new stuff so the items are such a steal! They’re a bit like Dr Jay’s or Rainbow if you’ve heard of them.

  2. You look fabulous! I enjoy getting deals and altering my clothing as well! You are too funny!

    1. Thank you!

    1. So glad you enjoyed it!

  3. You hit my love button with the clearance rack!!! LOL I love shopping deals. Though I give you credit for further altering. I’m not that crafty 😉
    By the way, great outfits!

    1. I have to admit I don’t love altering, but being 5’2″ I have had to do it often. ?

  4. Yes! I love a good budget friendly find! And your alterations look great! Hemming and taking clothes in is always a struggle for me lol.

    1. Thank you! I know what you mean. Sometimes the insides of things I’ve “fixed” don’t look so great, but from the outside you can’t tell. haha!

  5. Haha , that picture makes me laugh 🙂 Great alterations and bargain finds!

    1. Hehe. Thanks!
